Aims and Objectives

Our ultimate aim and objective is provide a fully community based angling and coaching program for local kids, schools, and community groups who live within the Trafford region.

How will we do it?

We intend to provide taster sessions, home and away events, club competitions through junior team participation and development.

We will liase with different communities and social groups and interact through angling and club participation, we will make use of open spaces and green areas and engage local people in to the sport of fishing.

 Why are we doing this?

In recent years juniors have been brought in to the club by father and grandfathers who were anglers themselves, this activity has decreased with the advent of commercial fisheries to the detriment of club waters like our own.

We have been asked time and time again from local parents and schools to set up a program of coaching and all it entails for the local children and adults, this involves supply of equipment and coaching staff which will deliver it on a year by year basis.

Name of our Project

The project is happening now and has been in one form or another for over the past 30 years!!... The club has helped coached and developed many 100’s of their junior members.   However, only during the past year or so have we recognised the importance of having proper youth training and development programs in place.

Who will benefit

Everyone both young and old, general public, dog walkers, bird watchers, we hope to benefit at least another 100+ more Junior’s within the next 3 years

What needs does the project fulfill

We will make use angling based projects to reach children and young individuals with inhibited social skills, engaging them in outdoor activities, developing their interpersonal skills and communication by empowering them to take decisions that affect the group or individuals.

Through extended access and participation we will be allowing the children and young adults, a chance to develop skills through angling, setting up, developing and running coaching programs that supply equipment, coaches and the proper environment for children to be safe and gaining confidence and social skills.

How would we follow-up the event/activity

We would take photographs and publish the children’s results of the matches on our website (www.urmstonanglers.net) and in the local press.  We would appoint different captains at each event to give them a sense of belonging, hand out prizes/medals, even form a league and organise presentation evenings.

 Improve quality of life

Outdoor pursuit based activities such as angling can be based on modular development programs such as Kingfisher or A.C.E.S (angling, conservation, environment skills) award schemes bronze, silver and gold, to encourage the children to be active in keeping the local lodge clean caring for the environment and wild life and generally getting them excited about contributing to the local environment.

 Volunteers

Both parents, coaches and assistant coaches have given up their time to help set up, run and develop programs and events such as these, this equates to over 500 hours of coaching time over the past few years which has been a tremendous achievement.

 Ultimate Goal

The clubs ultimate goal is to build a clubhouse and storage area to hold all of this fishing tackle but also in hold indoor training sessions and accommodate first aid facilities.

Mission Statement

Urmston Angling Association will endeavour to make available time, resources and equipment to engage the local communities in the sport of angling.

When and wherever possible we will provide training sessions and have qualified/assistant coaches on hand throughout.

The main purpose of which is to give focus and encouragement to all young individuals alike.
